PRESS RELEASE on behalf of SKOPOS market insight

7th June 2006

Are we cynics, realists or optimists?
Are we good at predicting?

Just 21% of the marketing, media & research industries
believe England will win the World Cup!

But we choose an England team that features (the injured) Rooney!

SKOPOS market insight unveil the results from their ‘World Cup 2006 Industry Survey’. A sample of over 1,000 industry contacts (clients and agencies) from the UK, Europe and around the world took part in the last week in the online survey to determine a consensus on England’s chances - and many more aspects of the World Cup 2006.

PREDICTED WINNERS
  • Twice as many think Brazil will win as England…

    • 42% believe Brazil will win this year’s World Cup

    • Only 21% believe that England will win the World Cup.
PREDICTED SCORE FOR THE FINAL:
  • Most respondents predict the score before extra time in the World Cup 2006 Final will be a fairly exciting 2:1
ENGLAND DREAM TEAM SELECTED BY THE INDUSTRY

The 11 players for the England Dream Team would (perhaps predictably) be….
  • Goalkeeper – Paul Robinson.

  • Defenders – Ashley Cole, John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville.

  • Midfielders– David Beckham, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole.

  • Strikers – Michael Owen & Wayne Rooney (Peter Crouch making a late run but not quite ousting the injured Rooney)
And in other football news today……
